A Thought on Thoughts
The inquisitive mind seems to be the surest way to discover our true nature. At the core of every human, I believe there is a default state, a true nature that is comprised of love, kindness and compassion. I believe this to be true of all human beings. When we seek to understand rather than judge we can communicate to the world around us from this true nature, rather than the from the learned behaviors that have created the illusion of who we are, of a “self” that surely must be a construct that doesn’t actually exist. We cannot engage fully with the world from our true nature, however, until we know how to engage with ourselves this way.
Here’s a thought: All thoughts are like strangers. They appear unprompted and have an agenda all their own. Can you meet these thoughts with curiosity rather than judgment? Can you see the thought for what it is? It is a stranger, a foreigner and you can react to it in one of two ways, you can judge it, which leads to the belief that it is real, which invariably leads to an emotional response, or you can be inquisitive as to what it is and what it wants, thereby alleviating any kneejerk emotional reaction you would have to it. It is through this curiosity that we can choose to respond from our true nature, from a place of love, kindness and compassion. A radical idea that just might be the secret to changing the world.
Just food for thought…
